What’s new - March 2008

March 30

We went skiing to Nakiska today. Read about it by following this link.

March 27

Thursday and that means Spanish class. Today our “profesora” wasn’t feeling too well or maybe there are problems at home, anyway she was not happy herself ;-((. As always I had fun in class, I actually look forward to my “Como se dice” classes. About three classes left and that’s gonna by IT for this session. I would like to sign up for next classes starting in April but since I don’t know what’s up with Limin’s Mom (I might have to go to China) I can’t sign up.

March 21

Bright and early we took off for Mount Norquay. We met up with Liang and Ken over there and while they went off to do skiing I put on my crampons and went for it. Since I am not aware of any service roads on this hill I used ski runs for my walk up. Some places it was scary steep. It is amazing that with skis strapped to my feet I would not thin twice about the steepness of some of those runs but being perched there with crampons on I could not stop thinking that if my crampons become undone I’d be tumbling all the way down like a human ball. Well, it was beautiful day out and on top of that I did make it all the way up to the top. I met up with Limin and others there took some pictures, had a bite to eat. By 3:30 pm it was time to start heading back home, Tian had to work at 5 pm, and of course we were a bit late. (Click here to see the pictures).

Yesterday I talked to Kurt and our motor home transaction fell through due to poor mechanical inspection report. Kurt was willin to drop another $ 2000 off initial purchase prise but that would leave me with another $ 1500 to pay and who knows, once the mechanics open up the beast final bill might just skyrocket. It’s better to pass that one. He’ll give me my down payment today ;-)) Tomorrow Good Friday which translates to long weekend. The plan is to go skiing in Mount Norquey, well they will do the skiing and I will do some hiking just like I did last week.

March 17

Hmmmm……inspection turned out not to be very promising for the whole venture. Looks like I would have to spend at least $ 3500 just to get that motor home in “shipshape”, otherwise I can’t even insure it. Mechanics do not like breaks, they said - what breaks? Also all 6 tires would have to be replaced at min $ 150 - 200 per tire, you do the math. Well, looks like my “motor home” dream just crash landed. Well, there will be other motor homes yet.

March 16

Even though it looked pretty gloomy outside by 11 o’clock we were on our way to Nakiska. We, means Limin and I, Matt and Tian. Shortly after leaving Calgary weather improved 100 %, beautiful snow and blue ski - dream weather for skiing. While they went skiing I walked up the hill all the way to mid-mountain lodge where we all met and had bite to eat. It was great day out. See pictures by clicking here. After we came back to Calgary I had to go and meet with the guy whom I am buying motor home from. Tomorrow we have to take it for technical inspection. If it passes the inspection I will be buying it. I’ll keep you posted.

March 15

After dropping Limin off I have been busy in the kitchen preparing nice dinner for tonight. Tonight’s menu consists of baked potato, steaks, cauliflower with butter and bread crumbs (very Polish), cucumbers in sour cream (another good Polish dish), tomatoes. Black forest cake, coffee and/ or tea for desert. Should be nice evening, most likely I will take few pictures if so I should post some.

March 15

Friday, weekend finally. It has been pretty busy weekend with Limn’s English classes, my Spanish and everything in between. As for weekend plans we have friends coing over tomorrrow and planing a skiing trip on Sunday.

March 9

Finally had a chance to get out and enjoy outdoors. This morning we got together with Al and his kids and did Prairie Mountain hike. Read about it here. After hike came home tired but happy, maybe (God’s willing) I’ll do some more outdoors this coming season. Anyway, after I had 40 minute soak in bubbling jacuzzi Limin and I went to Second Cup for a nice coffee and some “sweet square”, came home and I was pretty much done for today. It was a nice day, we have to repeat it soon Al, Big Matt, Small Matt and Josh ;-))) Sometimes later this year we have to organize “sleep over” on Forget-me-not ridge. That should be a blast.

March 6

Thursday, Spanish class day. Another long day for us, we left after 7 am and came back around 10 pm. Talked to Al (one of my cooworkers) about doing something together on this coming weekend, things are looking up.

March 5

After work Limin went for English class while I visited Bolek. It is pretty handy for them to live so close to Mount Royal Collage. Their son (”Inzynier”) can walk to school and I can visit them while Limin is improving her English.

March 3

Monday, back to normal, back to work.

March 2

Well it is Sunday. So far weekend went by really quickly and the only event worth mentioning is our yesterday’s evening out with Bolek and Halina. On Saturday we went to “Cattle Baron” for nice steak dinner, well boys had steak and ladies had fish. My original plan was to go to “Blue Coffee”, which is Latino-American cosine with live Latino music, pretty cool actually….. but we did not get reservation. That place is small but pretty good and there is not even point of going there without reservation hence we ended up in “Cattle Baron”, which is pretty decent steak house anyway. This morning Matt dropped by and we had nice breakfast together. Later on I met him again to help with his site on “Outdoorsica“, I hope he’ll keep it going (check his site).
