- What’s new – June 2009

June 30

Nothing interesting to report except for the fact that I had to get up at 5 am this morning – work ;-((

June 28

This morning only such a die-hards like Limin and I went fishing (with very little success), Marek kept himself busy on the computer answering numerous mails and making numerous reservation and inquiries in Yukon and Alaskawhere he is going after visiting us while Raphaelle simply slept in ;-) )

June 27

Before breakfast……you guessed – we went fishing ;-) ) Unfortunately my boat is still not ready and fishing from the shore is slowly loosing its luster, fish are getting pretty picky when it comes to food – too much of it around, you know summer. Anyhow, fishing was not too good. After breakfast I took our visitors on local tour. First Frank Slide, Blairmore, trail head to Crowsnest Mountain. We ended up doing little walk around Chinook Lake, it sure was pretty. ( click here to see pictures )

June 26

Friday again and again we went to Bellevue. This time Marek and Raphaelle joined us. Even though we came rather late we still managed to watch “My Cousin Vinny“, great movie indeed. Limin and I must have seen it proverbial 100 times already.  By the way, if you have seen “The Wrestler” you can not help but to notice how much Marisa Tomei has changed as compared to “My Cousin Vinny”where she played Ms. Mona Lisa Vito – man time does not wait for anyone, does it? We all go to the very same final destination I guess the name of the game is how do we get there ;-) )) hehehehehehe……

June 25

Big day for our family today. Limin became citizen of this

June 22

Monday, life returns to “normal”, whatever that normal means ?!?! I guess it means different thing for different people.

June 21

Father’s Day today.Around noon Agnes came and gave me very nice present – fishing vest with Agnes wearing my new vest_ – for more pictures  click here.

Later Liang, Li Hao (aka John) and Ken came to celebrate with us Father’s Day. Limin prepared Hot Pot and we all had good time. Back to the page with pictures.

June 20

Wow, busy day – got called in to PLC hospital in the morning. Our new student arrived from Montreal. Her name is Rafaelle and I am sure you’ll read more about her as she stays with us till almost end of July. Here is Raphaelle :

June 19

Friday but this time I am “grounded” in Calgary. I am on call hence cannot go anywhere. Actually it turned out to be perfectly timed since this morning I talked to Luciana and a new student is arriving tomorrow. This time our student is a “local” one – she is Canadian from Quebec.  After work we all got busy cleaning the place in preparation of our tomorrow’s arrival.

After work we stopped in Chinese store (the one on Center Street), on Sunday it is Father’s Day and Limin will make “Hot Pot” for the occasion. Ken and sister are comong as well, it should be fun. While in the store I bought big clay pot – I will try to make special drink using rye bread, yeast and little bit of suger. Back in the day it was very popular before Coca Cola and other sweetened water plus some chemicals (people call it pop drink these days0  was invenetd. I also want to pickle beets but that is a different story.  For Father’s Day in pictures click here.

June 17

The only “thing”worth mentioning to day is my phone call to Vancouver, I called Ula. After good few weeks it was nice to catch up on all the gossip ;-)

June 15

Today there is only one news to communicate to the world – Limin passedher exam !!!!!!!! The results came in around noon. We were so nervous to check them but sooooo happy after we did check and found out that – she GOT it !!!

June 14

Sunday. I got up early, did some shopping, cooked  breakfast. Today I fixed eavestrough, well at least on one side for now.  Also we worked a bit on roses in Mom’s house. They should be in a better shape next time we go there. It was so nice in Bellevue that we had hard time leaving, finally we had to. Well, till next time.

June 13

After usual slow start went fishing again. This time it was nice but HOT !!! We managed to seat in this blaring sun for 2 hours, that’s it. After we came back Limin got busy in the garden and I spent most of that afternoon installing new window in our porch.  In the afternoon storm came through, made the air cooler and full of aroma.  After supper (which I cooked) we watched HBO production – “Taking Chance”, sad but in a way interesting movie about an officer escorting body of a fallen solder back to his home town. Like I said – interesting but…..very sad (for many reasons). Click here for pictures.

June 12

Friday, after work we quickly went home, packed up and off we went to Bellevue. As soon as we came, we got reorganized, took our fishing equipment and by 8 pm were fishing. Wow, it was so pretty there – it had rained before so world was full of spring scents. It was very beautiful evening and fishing was pretty good as well.

June 11

Last few days nothing interesting to report. Weather finally improved and it looks like we are for a nice weekend.

June 7

You might say we slept in today since we got up almost at 10 am ;-) After breakfast at Chris’ we went fishing. Well, this time fisihing was better than day before but still…..not the best. We arrived back in Calgary around 7 pm, despite  the weather it was still nice weekend.

Click here for the pictures taken in Bellevue this weekend.

June 6

Last night arrived in Bellevue, wow what a drive it was !!!! Back to the winter, it snowed heavily as soon as we passed Longview (by the way, Longview is where Clint Eastwood made his “Unforgiven”) – it snowed all the way. Around Claresholm turn off it was as white as in the middle of December plus pretty slippery. This morning we woke up to a very wintery landscape. We slept in, had a nice breakfast, hang around till noon and ……(you got it) – went fishing. Fishing was not the greatest but…..we still managed to catch few.  Kept couple for supper and….lost a really big one. I already had it on the hook but did not quite landed it, all I saw was HUGE dorsal fin as the fish broke the line and graciously swam away ;-((

June 5

Friday or as they say TGIF (thanks God it is Friday). Even though weather is terrible, only +5, gray and raining we still are going to Bellvue. We might not do too much fishing or gardening or anything due to the weather but still I love doing nothing in Bellevue. I sure can take a break. Last year we had a lovely student from Korea who stayed with us in during the summer, her name was Min and today she sent us an e-mail.  At the same time we had a student from Poland as well, his name was Alex. One weekend we did a hike together (see pictures here), do you remember Min? It was fun, wasn’t it? Thanks for your mail, it is always nice to hear from you.

June 4

Nothing spectacular to report from work though there is something to talk about. Limin’s nice Fu Rao is getting married this fall and it looks like we will be going to witness this happy moment so in October  – Hello China, here we come !!! ;-) ) I love going to China, it is such a cool country, so much to see, so much to do, so much to eat (;-)) and so much to drink – good life. Another Limin’s nice (Xiao Mouse) sent us some pictures few days ago, finally I found them on my messy desk last night. I will publish some of them tomorrow. Marek sent another e-mail. He is coming for sure around June 23rd.

June 3

This morning got an e-mail from RafalRafal_a , son of my high school friends. Years ago Rafal moved to DublinIreland and we have loosely kept in touch. Rafal and his girlfriend have done lots of traveling (for young guys ;-) ) – you can check some of their pictures here. The young lad is getting married this September – all the best to you both ;-) )

Just found out that my good friend Marek whom I visited in Gdansk this April is coming to visit us at the end of June.

Looks like we are going to have busy summer with numerous visitors so after work (and after supper of course) I recommenced work in the basement. I am pretty closed to its completion but…..still need to do a bit. Anyhow, after good few months of total lull I am back at it.

June 1

This morning Ken and Liang (Limin’s sister) were leaving for CuscoPeruand Bolivia where Ken wants to visit his daughter Christa. Their plane was leaving at 6 am and they had to be at the airport around 4 AM, since I promised to drive them to the airport I had to pick them up at 3:45 am. Wow, that was an early start for me but after dropping them off I still managed to find my way the the bed and catch another 2 hours of sleep.

Monday, back to work. Week started as many before and hopefully many to follow.
