Our World

- What’s new – August 2009

Aug 24

After work we picked Yung Xin from the university and went to the airport to “collect”Tian after his well deserved Chinese holidays. Unfortunately due to some problems in Vancouver he was delayed. After 3 hours at the airport we drove back and later just Limin and I went to the airport again after he called us from Vancouver before boarding a plane. Finallylateat night we  collected our traveller. Tian was happy but not happy to be back  - it is hard to come back from 2 months holidays where nobady wascontrolling him. Well, sounds like a paradox but coming back to Canada put an end on his freedom….heheheheh

Tonight we held farewell party for our students. Six weeks of their stay comes to an end. They are leaving this coming Saturday. We had great time with them and will besorry to see them going back – but, that’s life. End of something is beginng of something else as someone once said ;-) ) We had great time again, stayed up well into the night.

Today Chinese kids invited us to our place  for traditional Chinese Hot Pot. I know it all sounds a bit strange – invited us to our place – let me explain. In order to prepare Hot Pot one needs kitchen, portable stove and special pot. Beside vegetables, sea food etc need to be prepared before it ends up in a pot so for those kids being away from home it would be impossible task to complete, they needed a kitchen and they got to use our kitchen to prepare their treat hence invitation for us for dinner at our place.  Well, the evening was wonderful. We had great food, few rounds of drinks and long discussion about pretty much everything.

After breakfast Miyu, Yung Xin and I headed off to Drumheller. Meng Meng did not want to go with us while Anqi went with friends to Edmonton to help  Canadian economy by spending copious amounts of money in West Edmonton Mall. Once in Drumheller we went to Tyrell Museum. Yung Xin told me that asa child he had fixation with dinosaurs so this was right place for him to be. Every time I find myself there I love it. I can’t even tell how many times I have been there but each time I went there I had good time. This time was not any different. This year they changed things around a bit making it somehow new to me as well. We took lots of pictures there so if you want to see either us or dinosaurs or both – click here.

Today was a sad day – Ninka and Pszczolka left. After light breakfast we drove them to the airport where we said our good byes. If all goes well we might be able to see Pszczolka in Germany sometimes this fall. As for Ninka, hopefully we will see her next year in Poland or she might come back here for more English.

This afternoon our friend Mai Luo and her husband invited us for real Chinese feast. We had wonderful time with them, their son, Lucy (another friend whom they invited) and Lucy’s son.  Food was beautiful and plentiful. Thank you dear friends for great meal and wonderful time we had with you.

Aug 14

This afternoon Yun Xin came to say good bye to Nina and Pszczolka since they are leaving tomorrow.  What a gentleman  Yung Xin is ;-) )

Later Pszczolka Maja wanted to take few evening shots of Calgary so we went to a very nice spot in the evening and had little photo session there – click here to check it out. Ninka did not join us since she had her own agenda for the evening – enough said ……hehehehe

In the morning I was too lazy to fix us a breakfast so we paid visit to Chris Restaurant. Came back and did what I like the most – nothing. We sure could use some lazying around for a change. It was wonderful not to do anything. We watched TV, had a midday nap – what a life ;-) )

Our Chinese and Japanese students are on different trips with university, Nina and Pszczola decided to do last moment shopping so Limin and I went to Bellevue – yes, just two of us.  Shortly after arrival we hooked up the boat and were off to Beaver Mines lake. By now I got my fish finder operational and good thing I did. Fishing was very slow and if it was not for the fish finder I would have though that tere were no fishing the lake. Eventually we managed to catch 7 fish, all pretty big. So in the balance even though fishing was not very good we still came back home with nice fish which I think I will smoke in my brand new smoker.

Still in Bellevue. After traditional unhealthy Bellevue style breakfast – bacon, hash browns and eggs – we went to Waterton Park. Well, Waterton Park is such a special place to visit. Kids were totally taken by animals freely roaming the streets – again I took lots of pictures.  After doing traditional walk along the lake, Cameron falls and back to the main street we drove to Cameron Lake. Once there we went for short walk along the shore but kids were pretty tired not being used to hiking so we just “parked”ourselves on boat dock and watch life happening around us. We had was pretty good time there. After we came back to Bellevue Yun Xin helped me with the grass, meantime I prepared good BBQ steaks. By the eveing everyone was pretty tired but it was time to drive back to Calgary. Well, I did the driving while they did the sleeping on theway back ;-) )

This morning was the time for Marlena and Krzysiek to pack up,  have last breakfast with us and say our good byes. We had very good time with them but like everything else in live their visit came to its end. Around noon I drove them to the airport, took few final pictures, few hugs, few good byes and as suddenly as they appeared in our lives they were gone. Til next time Dear Friends ;-) )

After I came back home we packed up the car and our Chinese kids and headed for Bellevue. Late start but nevertheless it is always nice to go there.

Assoon aswe came we had bite to eat, hooked up the boat and were off to Lee lake to do some fishinig. At this time of the year fishing is not the best but we still managed to catch some. Plus our Chinese students have not been ona boat before so each one of them took turn in driving it around the lake. It was very beautiful evening, I took lots of pictures – check them out.

New student from Japan arrived today. Her name is Miyu. We had  nice “welcome”supper for our new arrival.  Since Marlena and Krzysiek are leaving tomorrow Waldek came to say good bye to them.
