What’s new - April 2008

April 30

Not too much to talk about. After work quickly went to gym, after 60 minutes of much needed exercise back home, quickly changed and went of to university for my Spanish class, finally back home around 10 p.m. - wow, long day.

April 26

Weekend again. Today we had nice guests and nice meal - again (lol). Another case of calorie loaded Chinese “hot pot”. Limin works on NU 37 (nursing unit 37, renal inpatient) with Nahid. Nahid is a physician from Pakistan and she is the ward physician on 37. Nahid and Limin are looking after anywhere from 10 to 20 patients there. Nahid has been working on 37 for over 2 years so she helps Limin to get her bearings there. Also having graduated from med school where English was the lecturing language Nahid is fluent when it comes to all medical vocabulary and Limin is not hence Nahid provides much needed help in that department. As a token of our appreciation we invited Nahid her cousin who Nahid lives with and cousin’s wife for supper. As always hot pot” was a hit and we all had great time. Bob and Barbara (Nahid’s cousin and his wife) brought some traditional Pakistani rice and very delicious desert which we all enjoyed. Also today was first nice spring like day with temperatures soaring around 20 deg. Hopefully spring has arrived to Alberta.

April 21

Back to work and back to deep freeze - winter came back to Calgary - snow, cold….brrrrrrr

April 19

Bright and early (around noon hehehhe) I picked Maria and Arek after dropping Limin at UofC for her English class. While Limin was perfecting her perfect English we went to Glenbow museum. I had not been there for somethings like 20 years so it was interesting trip for me as well. Now, interesting fact to know is that Canadian museums are different of those say European ones. Canada having all 200 years of cultural heritage is not able to compete with European counterparts in terms of artifacts but…the way our exposition are made is far more interesting then what one sees in say France. Over here there is lots of interactivity involved with museum exhibits which makes it very interesting…..you know light, sound, motion kind of thing. After museum we picked up Limin and went home where I prepared almost half a cow on BBQ, well maybe not exactly half a cow but few nice steaks. We all had our fill, I think it all turned out pretty good - boy how am I supposed to loose weight - total impossibility. I should not be doing any BBQ until I drop to say 95 or so. Again we lasted well into the night although I did not drink this time since it is a weekend and cops are on the prowl. Somehow I managed to enjoy their company without getting inebriated….lol. Around midnight I drove them back to their downtown lodging. It’s been a blast, bye until next year Maria and Arek.

April 18

Friday, weekend around the corner. After work I picked up Maria and Arek (as previous time I was 30minutes late- sorrry guys) and we went SHOPPING !!! The activity I dislike the most but……that is always something one has to endure while traveling, I am sure their families will be happy to get some gifts. After what felt like eternity we Maria and Arek invited us to Moxies for dinner which we happily accepted since I was hungry like a wolf (lol). Food in Moxies is good so we had lovely dinner and lovely chat. I have to mention that as we picked’em up it was snowing a bit, by the time the dinner was over it was snowing hard and I mean really hard. There was well over a foot of snow on our outside world when we got outside.

April 15

After work I met Maria and a guy who works for her and who came herewith her - Arek. I picked’em up after work and brought home where we had wonderful evening sharing Chinese “hot pot” and all kinds of “beverages”. It was a lovely evening which lasted well into the night. We’ll meet again towards end of the week. By the way today is our 4th aniversary - my God time goes by so fast, it is hard to believe it has been already 4 years, glorious years I should have said ;-))) Thanks Limin for those great 4 years I hope there are at least 40 more ahead of us.

April 14

I have a dear friend in Poland whose name is Marlena, we went to the same high school. Last year while in Poland we went to see Marlena and her husband Chris - we had “whale” of a time but that’s a different story (check pictures). Marlena and Chris held lovely dinner for us for which they invited some of their neighbors. This is how we met Maria and her husband. Well, they run “audiovisual” business in Poland and it just so happened that Maria came yesterday to Calgary for a conference. She called us and we are going to meet tomorrow.

April 11

Possibly important date at least for me. Today I started my exercise program at our hospital gym. I am approaching 106 kg mark, way too much. We have such a nice facility, it is a shame that I have not been using it yet. Well, starting today I hope things will change in “exercise” department ;-)) I’ll keep you posted as to the progress or (God forbid) failure of my noble effort.

April 10

The most bizarre weather today. While driving to work it started snowing, by the time I got to hospital it was snowing hard with snowflakes the size of a silver dollar. It snowed hard till noon, then it stopped warmed up and snowed again. Altogether 27 cm of snow fell - in April!!!!! SCANDAL ;-)) Today I had my orientation in hospital fitness center. I am starting my exercise program tomorrow.

April 9, 2008

It is just hard to believe how fast time goes by. It is already 1/3th of April, looks like I am slipping back again ;-(( Well, I’d better do some catching up then. Last weekend we spent in Calgary. On Saturday morning I made rather sad discovery - my weight crept up back to 106 kg, like my friend Bolek (in Poland) said I rebuilt myself quite nicely. Well, I was not too happy about it - final conclusion, I have to do something about it. To make things worst I told Limin about my strange sensation on my left side she decided that I need ECG right away so I had one done on Monday. Thanks God, it turned out to be OK. Anyway, yesterday I signed up with hospital physio gym which staff can use after 4 pm. While waiting for Limin I’ll do some exercise - I’ll keep you posted with regards to its progress.
