Our World

2002_12_21 Mount Indefatigable

8.jpgJust before Christmas in 2002 we happened to be in beautiful Kananaskis Country with a hike in mind but nothing really planned. Initially we were thinking about Kings Canyon (it is spectacular at this time of the year) and possibly approach to Mount Hood but then while discussing our options. While standing next to Upper Kananaskis Lake we looked around and all of the sudden almost at the same instance we looked up and here it was - Mount Indefatigable. We had never done it before and since it is well know for its stunning views from the top we decided that the stunning day would fit just nice stunning views.

Mount Indefatigable has opinion of being very steep in summer so we had our reservations about going there on first day of winter (nomen omen) but since we all had our crampons, ice axes etc, we decided to give it a try. It turend out to be a long slog with deep (up to ones waist) snow close to the top plus some very slippery sections - ice and hard blown snow - but we did make it without any misadventures. Once up there, well you would have to be there to appreciate the views, the fresh air, the joy of being alive on a day like this. It was very memorable hike and maybe it is time to redo it again but perhaps in the summer this time. (lol)- check the pictures here.
